
James J. Helminski James J. Helminski - earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in 1998, where he played for the Michigan State Spartans Varsity Football team. He received his Juris Doctor cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2001, where he served as an editor of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review.
James worked at the State of Michigan Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission for three years. He played an important role in the development of modern case law, drafting opinions for the Appellate Commission Chairperson.
In 2006 James accepted a shareholder position with Bleakley Cypher Parent Warren & Quinn. James is a member of the Michigan Bar Association (workers’ compensation section) and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. He has successfully represented employers and insurance companies before all Michigan courts, including the Michigan Supreme Court.
James has authored a number of articles for state and nationwide publications regarding workers’ compensation law. He enjoys competitive sports and spending time with his wife, Lindsey. He is also an avid hunter and enjoys upland game hunting with his Weimaraners, Callen and Stella. James also likes working in the building construction field.
